Sue Pankhurst
Susan Pankhurst - Manager of Zap Laser Clinic
All staff are CRB checked and have the necessary beauty and laser qualifications you would expect of a laser practitioner in a clinic. The clinic was registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) up to the 1st October 2010, when the Government decided to discontinue the CQC. As of yet the Government still has to determine if and who will be taking over from the CQC to regulate the non-healthcare professionals for the use of non-surgical IPL and Laser systems. In the interim, Zap Laser Clinic upholds the 32 core standards and 3 service specific standards and continues to retain the services of Dr A Berry, our Laser Protection Advisor, to ensure that we continue to provide the highest level of care.

Susan Pankhurst, the Registered Manager, is a qualified beautician and laser operator with over 7 years experience in the Laser/IPL industry, 7 years in Human Resources and 3 years in Marketing. Susan has been providing aesthetic beauty treatments and performing IPL and laser treatments to both male and female clients in the past but it is since opening Zap Laser Clinic that she started to really see noticeable results. Choosing the right equipment was paramount not only to the success of the clinic but equally to client satisfaction and many clients have noticed remarkable results even after just one treatment.

Look for the registered mark

As previously state, as of October 1st 2010 clinics in England using Class 3b and 4 lasers for non surgical treatments such as hair removal will no longer have to be monitored by the CQC. As a result local authorities have become a ‘regulator of last resort’ for the safety of both consumers and those operating the equipment. The standard of special treatment licenses are currently under review by a government department who are working with the CQC and the Department of Health to provide recommendations to local authorities for an inspection proforma and enforcement expectations, maintenance requirements and where necessary access to specialist knowledge.

Currently WhichLaserClinic.com are carrying out a check of how councils are responding to this new challenge but at present (November 2010) only clinics who have previously been registered with the CQC are being listed within the WhichLaserClinic.com directory. This decision will be reassessed in April 2011 when it is expected local authorities will be up to speed with their new role.
